Pool care is simple when you have the right pumping and filtration equipment.
Pools are a great source of enjoyment and relaxation, but if the equipment is not working correctly you will only become frustrated.
Innisfail Chemex can help you to enjoy your pool and ensure that you get the best from your equipment with only a minimum of fuss. We believe that your pool is one of your largest investments and needs to be looked after on a regular basis. The pump and filter are the heart and lungs of the swimming pool.
Pool water must be circulated for maximum chemical effectiveness. If your filter doesn’t operate properly, neither will the products you add to the pool. Make sure the filtration and circulation systems are in clean operating order. The more your water is in motion, the harder it is for bacteria and algae to take hold in your pool. Your system should run a minimum of 8-10 hours in summer and a minimum of 4-6 hours in winter each day.
The filter is one of the most important pieces of equipment. It removes both visible debris and microscopic matter. Filters should be backwashed regularly (check your manufacturers guidelines). Backwashing and hosing does not remove oil, scale or deeply embedded debris and therefore needs to be chemically cleaned regularly.
Innisfail Chemex can help you with a filter maintenance program.
Types of Filters
Sand filters have traditionally been the most popular and easiest to use filters. Robust, durable and low in maintenance they can also be filled with different filtration media to filter finer particles. The water enters the tank through the diffuser. As the water goes down through the bed of filter media (sand, zeolite, glass), the dirt and debris are trapped between the grains. When the water reaches the bottom of the filter, it enters the laterals and is returned to the pool. Sand filters can now filter out debris to very low microns.

Diatomaceous Earth Filters:
DE Filters use diatomaceous earth as a filter media. The DE Filter has plastic grids covered with a plastic type of fabric. A layer of filter powder called diatomaceous earth covers the grids and does the filtering. The water passes through the filter powder and any debris are filtered out. Because the DE is finer than the old sand filters they were able to filter much more finely.

Cartridge filters are becoming a popular option as they do not require backwashing and therefore save water. Always check your cartridge each six months for wear and tear and replace. A small hole or tear in a cartridge filter will not allow the filter to operate correctly.

Pumps and Motors
The pump plays a critical role in keeping your pool in good health. It’s role is to pump water in a continual cycle, from the pool through the filter and chemical treatment system (if installed) and back to the pool again via return lines in the pool wall.
It is essential that your pump is the correct size to ensure that your pool runs at the optimum level. The size of the pool, the plumbing configuration and the type and number of pieces of equipment installed on the pool will all determine the correct size of your pump.
Salt Water Chlorinators
Salt Chlorinators produce chlorine when salt is added to the pool water. The water passes through a an electrolytic cell and this converts the chloride contained in the salt in the pool water to chlorine destroying harmful bacteria and viruses. A salt chlorinator alone cannot fully maintain a pool.
You will no longer need to purchase, transport, store or manually add chlorine. It also helps to eliminate red eyes, skin irritations and harsh chemical odours. Salt water chlorinators keep your pool sparkling clean and sanitised automatically.
Innisfail Chemex can help you maintain and bring out the best in your salt pool using a simple maintenance program.
Innisfail Chemex will help you choose the correct size and type of chlorinator to suit your pool.
